Licence Plate Recognition
The Town of Milton is introducing Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) software to enhance parking enforcement and compliance. This new technology uses cameras mounted on by-law enforcement vehicles to capture images of parked or stopped vehicles in violation of Town by-laws.
How the Licence Plate Recognition system works
The LPR system automatically scans and records licence plates of vehicles in violation of parking regulations. When a violation occurs, a parking ticket is issued and mailed to the vehicle’s registered owner.
Each ticket includes:
-
Details of the parking violation
-
An image of the vehicle and licence plate
-
Payment and dispute options
In addition to the ticket fine, a $10-standard-mail-service fee applies, as approved in Staff Report CORS-011-24 and User Fee By-law 62-2024.
LPR enforcement will prioritize:
-
School and community safety zones
-
Overnight, on-street parking compliance
To protect privacy, personal details, including people and unrelated vehicles, will be blurred where possible. The recorded data will be used exclusively by the Town of Milton for enforcement purposes.
Paying or disputing a parking ticket
If you receive a parking ticket or penalty notice in the mail from the Town of Milton, you have the following options:
Payment options
-
Online: Pay through the Town of Milton’s website
-
In Person: Visit Town Hall during business hours
Dispute a parking ticket:
To dispute a parking ticket or penalty notice, you must submit a review request within 30 days of when the ticket or notice was issued. If you do not respond to the parking ticket or penalty notice by the due date — either by paying the penalty or scheduling an initial screening meeting — you automatically waive your right to a review and will need to pay an administrative fee.
