As Canadians prepare to vote in the 2025 federal election, the Town of Milton is sharing its top priorities to ensure that local needs are considered. With planned population growth and evolving community needs, Milton is urging all federal parties and local candidates to commit to actions that support growth, livability, and a strong local economy.

"For 25 years Milton has grown, contributing a range of housing and economic options to Canada,” said Mayor Gord Krantz. “It is critical that we receive strong, federal support to help us deliver on our future growth plans out to 2051.”

Federal priorities for Milton

1. Expand transit to support growth

Milton is building transit-friendly neighbourhoods and planning for 21,000 new homes by 2031. To support this, the Town is calling for:

  • Investment in Two-Way All-Day GO service to the Milton GO Station
  • Funding for an additional GO station in the future Agerton neighbourhood
  • Stable, long-term funding to expand Milton Transit

2. Modernize funding and improve affordability

Today’s funding model places too much pressure on local taxpayers. Milton is seeking:

  • A new federal–municipal funding model that reflects population and economic growth
  • Expanded federal funding that includes operating and capital costs—not just infrastructure
  • Support to offset the financial impact of the proposed Canadian National (CN) Intermodal project

3. Build infrastructure to support housing

Milton’s population is projected to exceed 400,000 by 2051. To enable more housing options, the Town is requesting:

  • Continued federal support for planning and approving residential development
  • Stronger coordination across all levels of government to accelerate housing projects
  • Long-term investment in infrastructure—such as roads, water and sewers—to serve new neighbourhoods

4. Sustain economic momentum

Milton’s economy continues to grow and diversify. Since 2018, the professional, scientific, and technical services sector has increased by 64 per cent. To maintain this momentum and support all sectors, Milton is seeking:

  • Federal investment in emerging industries and business development programs, such as FedDev Ontario
  • Support for placemaking initiatives that help attract and retain a skilled workforce
  • Federal action to address the loss of key employment lands and the limited economic impacts proposed as part of the CN Intermodal Project
  • Federal action to reduce economic uncertainty and support local businesses

“We’re asking candidates to recognize the vital role municipalities play in delivering services and to work with us to build a strong future,” said Mayor Gord Krantz. “Our priorities reflect what our residents and businesses need most. Milton has a consistent record of planning responsibly and getting results—now, we need a federal partner who shares our vision.”
