News release

Milton Transit, along with 12 other transit agencies across Ontario, have partnered with Metrolinx and consulting firm HDR, to begin a study on moving towards battery electric powered buses.

Milton Transit will receive a report specific to the Town of Milton that looks at current and future plans, targets, polices, and financing to outline a transition toward electric buses and the required infrastructure.

Infrastructure Canada is funding 80 per cent of the cost of the study through the Zero Emission Transit Fund. This is a grant that supports public transit electrification efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change impacts.

The study is expected to be completed in 2023 and recommendations will be presented to Council for their consideration on next steps.
