The Town of Milton’s municipal election nominations for the 2022-26 term open on May 2, 2022. Eligible electors who are interested in running for Mayor, Regional Chair, Regional and Town Councillor, and School Board Trustees must follow the nomination process and file a nomination paper at Milton Town Hall.
Those elected for Milton’s local government make important decisions that impact the daily life of all residents. They contribute to the community’s vision, strategic direction and values. This includes changes and additions to services that impact the community, such as transit, parks, roads, sports and recreation programs and fire services. School Board Trustees are elected to make decisions about budgets and facilities in local schools.
Step-by-step nomination process
- Check your eligibility – to qualify as a candidate you must be a Canadian citizen, at least 18 years old, and live in Milton (or not live in Milton, but you or your spouse own or rent property in town)
- Review the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing’s 2022 Candidates’ Guide for detailed nomination criteria
- Fill out the nomination forms and gather at least 25 endorsements (school board trustees don’t need to provide endorsements)
- Both forms are also available at Town Hall (Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
- Book an appointment with the Town Clerk’s office by email or phone
- Attend your appointment, with identification that shows your name and address, to file your nomination papers, pay the nomination fee, and sign a declaration
