News release
The Town of Milton is launching its new road safety campaign, Milton Moves Together, which will raise awareness about the Town’s new infrastructure investments and pilot projects.
The Town of Milton is committed to building safe communities and the road safety agenda focuses on three key themes: traffic calming, school safety, and Community Safety Zones. Between now and the end of 2022, the Town will introduce new speed limit pilots and expand Community Safety Zones while educating motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians on the new measures and their role in keeping our roads safe.
In June 2022, the Town of Milton will roll out the first of the pilots. These traffic calming measures are designed to reduce the speed and volume of traffic, which will improve neighbourhood safety in areas where extra caution should be taken.
The first pilot project is a one-year 40 km/h speed limit in the Wilmott neighbourhood. Studies will be conducted during and after the pilot to measure results and develop long-term recommendations. In August, the Town will also promote cautious driving near school zones by piloting a one-year program on Leger Way in front of Viola Desmond School that will reduce the speed limit from 40 km/h to 30 km/h, when signs are flashing. Lastly, nine additional Community Safety Zones will be established throughout 2022.
The Town of Milton has also set up a dedicated web page that will be updated throughout these initiatives, with relevant resources and information to educate pedestrians, motorists and cyclists as new traffic measures and initiatives are implemented.
