Following a successful 2021 patio season, Milton will begin accepting applications for the 2022 patio season on March 10, 2022. The seasonal patio program allows bars and restaurants to extend and operate patios in certain areas.
During the 2021 season, the Town experienced a 20 per cent increase in permit applications compared to 2020, with approximately 30 businesses securing temporary patio permits in locations across the community.
All participating businesses reported that the program helped to recover some lost revenues due to the pandemic. In addition, 30 per cent of participating businesses reported that the program allowed them to hire additional employees in 2021.
Permits for the 2022 patio season are tentatively set to come into effect for a community-wide patio opening on April 15. As with previous years, the program will run through to Oct. 31, 2022, for patios on public property and Dec. 31, 2022, for patios on private property.
